According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), over the weekend, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un convened a Consultative Conference on the Regional Development Project and gave many instructions on accelerating the modernization of rural areas across the country.
At the conference, the North Korean leader said that the construction of medical, scientific and grain management facilities in cities and counties is an essential and urgent task to accelerate regional development. Kim Jong Un ordered the priority completion of modern medical facilities to improve the lives, security and health of local people. He also said that it is necessary to soon complete science and technology dissemination centers to give people from all walks of life the opportunity to contribute to the development of the country with technology and knowledge, and to build comprehensive rice processing facilities to further improve people's diet.
The conference took place as the Workers' Party of Korea prepared to adopt an important decision to accelerate rural development under leader Kim Jong Un's "20×10 Regional Development Policy" to open modern factories in at least 20 remote counties each year for the next 10 years.
