Asianet TV channel updated information on casualties in a series of landslides in India on July 30, saying that at least 107 people were killed.
Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference, Kerala Governor Pinarayi Vijayan said 128 people have been hospitalized. This is one of the worst natural disasters the state has ever experienced.
Landslides occurred in the mountainous area of the southern state of Kerala due to heavy rains and the collapse of a main bridge, making rescue efforts difficult. The landslides began around midnight, when people were sleeping.
The Indian Express news agency said many people may have been swept away by floodwaters in the Chaliyar River.
