General Secretary and President To Lam attends the opening ceremony at Vietnam National University of Agriculture

Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture - where nearly 90 cadres, lecturers and staff from Hai Duong are working - was honored to welcome General Secretary and President To Lam to attend the opening ceremony of the new school year.

On the morning of October 12, General Secretary and President To Lam attended the opening ceremony of the new school year 2024-2025 and inaugurated the "Capacity, Training, Science and Technology Enhancement Project" using ODA capital from the World Bank at the Vietnam National University of Agriculture.

Hai Duong province attended this event with leaders of the Department of Education and Training, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Science and Technology and Hai Duong Newspaper.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam praised the great achievements of the agricultural sector in recent times, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolutions of the Central Executive Committee and the Politburo on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, maintaining national food security, making an important contribution to ensuring global food security, and taking the lead in creating circular, low-carbon, green growth agriculture. In that common achievement, there is an outstanding and comprehensive contribution from the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture.

The General Secretary and President emphasized that with the foundation, potential, position and international prestige that has been built, Vietnam is entering a new era with the aspiration to rise up. The Agriculture and Rural Development sector in general and the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture in particular need to deeply perceive the new historical starting point vision, clearly define their roles and responsibilities to constantly innovate, strive to rise up strongly, keep up with the times, and contribute to building an increasingly rich, prosperous, civilized and happy country.

The Party and the State have repeatedly affirmed that education and training are the top national policies, and that science and technology are key to the country's development and prosperity. Universities must be an important entity in the national innovation system, meeting the requirements of the knowledge economy, circular economy and digital transformation.

The General Secretary and President suggested that in the coming time, the Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture must strive to not only be the country's leading training and research center but also a prestigious university in the region and the world, a center of innovation, and a trusted address for national startups.

The Academy also needs to develop a comprehensive development plan with a suitable roadmap to become a university modeled after advanced research universities in the world. It is recommended that relevant ministries and branches take responsibility for guiding and supporting the Academy in developing and organizing the implementation of this plan.

On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam also requested that universities nationwide actively improve the quality of training, and ensure that training programs are compatible, integrated, and internationalized according to advanced standards as soon as possible. Continue to innovate training content and methods in line with the era of the 4th industrial revolution and national digital transformation.

We recommend that the Ministry of Education and Training and relevant ministries and sectors continue to research and issue policies so that universities can fully and synchronously implement university autonomy, helping our country soon have a university education system that can "stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers"...

Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, emphasized that the Academy, formerly the University of Agriculture and Forestry, was established in 1956 and is the leading training and research institution in the field of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in Vietnam and is among the top 30 universities in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam National University of Agriculture is a public university, multidisciplinary training and national key. With more than 120,000 engineers, bachelors, 10,000 masters, 600 doctors graduated, many alumni hold important positions in state agencies and enterprises.

The Academy has many achievements in training, scientific research, international cooperation and has actively contributed to the development of Vietnam's agriculture and rural areas over many decades.

With the continuous efforts of generations of teachers and students, Vietnam National University of Agriculture has created a position in society. In particular, the SAHEP – VNUA Project funded by the World Bank implemented at the university has contributed to improving research and training capacity...

Teachers and students of the academy are determined to make the most of intellectual resources and physical facilities to continue promoting fundamental and comprehensive innovation in training, research, and transfer of scientific and technological advances into life to meet the development goals of the country in the new era...

At the ceremony, Party and State leaders pressed the button to inaugurate the "Capacity enhancement, training, science and technology project" funded by the World Bank's ADA at the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture.

At the end of the ceremony, leaders of the Party, State, several ministries, departments, and central agencies... planted souvenir trees at the academy.

At Vietnam National Academy of Agriculture, there are nearly 90 cadres, lecturers and employees from Hai Duong working here. There are a number of typical scientists and managers who have worked here such as Professors and Doctors: Vu Van Liet, former Secretary of the Party Committee of the Academy, currently Secretary of the Academy Council; Vu Dinh Ton, former Head of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry; Nguyen Van Song, former Deputy Head of the Faculty of Economics and Rural Development, economic expert...

Every year, Hai Duong has many students studying at the Vietnam National University of Agriculture. Many generations of alumni from this university from Hai Duong have held important positions in state agencies and enterprises.

The Hai Duong Association at the academy currently has over 120 members, including current and retired staff and lecturers, and maintains regular annual meetings.

Hai Duong is identified by the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture as one of the localities with ideal conditions for implementing scientific research tasks and organizing internships for students due to its many industrial parks, vegetable and endemic plant growing areas, etc. Many scientific topics and tasks have been coordinated by the academy in the province.

In April this year, for the first time, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture coordinated with Hai Duong Department of Education and Training to organize the workshop "Startup Journey from High School".

For many years, the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture has maintained sending students to Hai Duong for internships. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) alone has welcomed 300-600 students each year to practice the curriculum of slaughter control, vaccination, disease prevention, etc.

Some volunteer student teams from the academy have gone to Gia Loc and Tu Ky districts... to organize volunteer activities for community life.
