On the morning of August 16, Comrade Luong Cuong, Politburo member and Standing member of the Secretariat, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, received the delegation of the Portuguese Communist Party led by General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party Paulo Raimundo who was visiting and working in Vietnam.
At the meeting, Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong affirmed that the visit would help further strengthen the traditional solidarity between the two Parties, the multifaceted friendship and cooperation between the two States and peoples of Vietnam and Portugal, towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2025. He thanked the Portuguese Communist Party for always paying attention, supporting and showing close comradely affection to the Communist Party of Vietnam over the years.
Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong informed the General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party of the outstanding results and lessons learned from nearly 40 years of renovation; affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam is steadfast in Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, determined to realize the goals set by the 13th National Congress: by 2030, Vietnam will become a developing country with modern industry and high average income and by 2045, it will become a developed country with high income; and build a clean and strong Party.
General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party Paulo Raimundo was delighted to visit Vietnam for the first time, expressing his admiration for the important economic development achievements and social progress that Vietnam has achieved since the Doi Moi process under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party affirmed that the results and lessons of Vietnam in the renovation and construction of socialism are valuable experiences with high reference value for the Portuguese Communist Party in the struggle for democracy, progress and socialism in Portugal. Emphasizing that the Portuguese Communist Party always attaches importance to the traditional solidarity with the Communist Party of Vietnam, the General Secretary of the Portuguese Party affirmed his wish to continue to contribute to promoting the good friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, the two countries and the people of Vietnam and Portugal, as well as to contribute, together with the Communist Party of Vietnam, to consolidating the international communist and workers' movement.
During his visit to Vietnam, the delegation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Portugal Paulo Raimundo held talks with Comrade Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission; discussed and agreed on measures to strengthen the relationship between the two Parties in an increasingly practical and effective manner, including increasing the sharing of theoretical and practical experiences in building socialism; coordinating at multilateral forums; and promoting understanding and affection between the people of the two countries.
The delegation also had discussions and worked with comrade Vu Hai Ha, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, leaders of the Central Economic Committee, the Central Theoretical Council; visited and discussed with leaders of the Party Committee and Hanoi University, met and interacted with lecturers and students of the Portuguese Department of the University; and visited, learned about the reality, and worked with leaders of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee.
