Immediately after the landslide in Da Lat, the Prime Minister issued an official dispatch directing the focus on overcoming the consequences of the landslide in Lam Dong province and proactively responding to landslides during the flood season.
Landslide area, many high-rise buildings were seriously affected
On June 29, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 591/CD-TTg on focusing on overcoming the consequences of landslides in Lam Dong province and proactively responding to landslides during the flood season.
The dispatch stated that in recent days, some localities in the Northern mountainous region and the Central Highlands have experienced heavy rain, causing landslides and localized flash floods. Early in the morning of June 29, 2023, a landslide occurred in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, burying 2 people, injuring several others, and damaging people's houses. The Prime Minister sent his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
To urgently overcome the consequences of the above landslide and proactively ensure the safety of people and infrastructure during the flood season, the Prime Minister requested Ministers, Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities, the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the National Committee for Incident Response, Natural Disasters and Search and Rescue to focus on directing and proactively implementing the work of preventing, combating and mitigating damage caused by natural disasters.
In particular, the Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee continues to direct the quick overcoming of the consequences of the above-mentioned landslide; organize the treatment of the injured; visit, encourage and support the affected families, especially the families with victims; direct the provincial authorities to inspect, evaluate and determine the specific cause of the landslide to learn from experience and avoid similar landslides, and strictly handle violations in land management and construction activities (if any) in accordance with the provisions of law.
The Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities direct competent agencies and disaster prevention and control forces at the grassroots level to proactively review, inspect, and promptly detect areas at risk of landslides when heavy rains last for a long time, especially residential areas, schools, agency headquarters, barracks, construction sites, and mines to proactively evacuate, relocate, and have plans to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
The Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Natural Resources and Environment, Construction, Education and Training, Transport, Industry and Trade, National Defense, and Public Security shall proactively direct, inspect, and urge the implementation of natural disaster prevention and control work, ensuring safety for forces and works under their management responsibilities, according to their assigned state management functions.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control closely monitors natural disaster situations, proactively directs, inspects, and urges localities to implement prevention, control, overcome consequences, and limit damage caused by natural disasters.
The National Committee for Incident, Disaster Response and Search and Rescue closely monitors the situation of natural disasters and incidents, proactively directs and coordinates with ministries, branches and localities to deploy response, search and rescue work, ensuring timeliness and effectiveness.
