Prime Minister directs urgent investigation into cause of work accident that killed and injured 10 people

Telegrams sent to the Ministers of Public Security, Construction, Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs; Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee.

According to information from the People's Committee of Yen Bai province, at around 1:30 p.m. on April 22, a particularly serious work accident occurred during the repair of a stone crushing line at the cement factory of Yen Bai Cement and Minerals Joint Stock Company, killing 7 people and injuring 3 others. The initial cause was determined to be a breakdown of the electric motor of the crusher, which led to the accident for workers who were directly performing maintenance and repair work.

Immediately upon receiving information about the accident, the Prime Minister directed to send his warmest regards and deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the victims; at the same time, directed the leaders of Yen Bai province to directly go to the scene of the accident to direct the overcoming of consequences and visit and support the families of the victims in the accident.

To promptly overcome the consequences and take measures to prevent similar accidents, the Prime Minister requested:

1. The Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Bai province urgently organizes thoughtful visits, promptly supports and encourages the families of the deceased victims and completes procedures related to the deceased victims; visits, encourages and supports the injured victims; at the same time directs the functional forces to urgently clarify the cause, overcome the consequences, stabilize production, promptly investigate, clarify the cause of the accident, clarify the responsibilities of related organizations and individuals, and strictly handle violations according to the provisions of law (if any).

Directing to strengthen inspection and examination work, promptly detect and handle violations of labor safety regulations in construction material production activities in the area, absolutely not allowing similar cases to occur.

2. The Ministry of Public Security directs Yen Bai Provincial Police to coordinate with relevant agencies to urgently investigate and clarify the cause of the accident, and strictly handle violations according to the provisions of law (if any).

3. The Ministry of Construction shall coordinate with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the People's Committee of Yen Bai province and relevant agencies to direct enterprises to carefully review regulations, standards and procedures for mining and processing minerals for cement production, promptly overcome shortcomings and limitations, and ensure absolute safety for workers.
