Industrial and construction sector records highest income growth in 2022

The average monthly income of workers in 2022 is 6.7 million VND, an increase of 927,000 VND compared to the previous year and an increase of 759,000 VND compared to the same period in 2019. Notably, in 2022, income in most economic sectors increased.

This information was given at a press conference on the labor and employment situation in the fourth quarter and 2022 held by the General Statistics Office on January 10 in Hanoi.

In 2022, the average monthly income of male workers is 7.6 million VND, an increase of 950,000 VND compared to the previous year and an increase of 830,000 VND compared to the same period in 2019. The average monthly income of female workers is 5.6 million VND, an increase of 914,000 VND compared to the previous year and an increase of 709,000 VND compared to the same period in 2019.

According to the General Statistics Office, 2022 will witness growth in most economic sectors, leading to an increase in workers' income in all three economic sectors compared to 2021, of which the industrial and construction sectors will record the highest income growth.

The income of workers in the industrial and construction sectors increased the most, up 17.6%, equivalent to an increase of VND 1.1 million/person/month; workers in the service sector increased by 15.4%, equivalent to an increase of VND 1 million/person/month. The average income of workers in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 9.8%, equivalent to an increase of VND 448,000 compared to the same period in 2021.

Some economic sectors have a remarkable growth rate in average income of workers in 2022 such as workers in the transportation and warehousing industry with an average income growth rate of 21.2%, equivalent to an increase of 1.6 million VND; the accommodation and food service industry increased by 21%, equivalent to an increase of 1.1 million VND; the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 18.2%, equivalent to an increase of 1.1 million VND; the income of workers in the wholesale, retail, auto, motorcycle, and motorbike repair industries increased by 17.2%, equivalent to an increase of 1.1 million VND/person/month.

The average income of wage workers in 2022 is 7.5 million VND, an increase of 15.1% compared to the previous year, equivalent to an increase of 992,000 VND. Compared to the same period in 2019, when COVID-19 had not yet appeared, the income of wage workers increased by 12.7%, equivalent to an increase of about 847,000 VND. The average income of wage workers working in urban areas is 1.23 times higher than the average income of workers working in rural areas, equivalent to 8.4 million VND compared to 6.9 million VND.
