Many meaningful volunteer activities

Two months have passed, but Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh (born in 2011) and Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung (born in 2012) in Ngo Dong village (Lac Long commune) still cannot hide their joy at living in a new, spacious house.

Their father passed away and their mother remarried. Since childhood, Phuong Linh and Phuong Dung have lived with their maternal grandparents, who are over 70 years old. Despite their old age and poor health, the grandparents still try to grow and take care of several acres of onions to earn income to send their grandchildren to school. The old house where the grandparents and their two grandchildren lived was built a long time ago, but is now dilapidated and cramped.

Faced with such difficult circumstances, the Town Youth Union mobilized benefactors to support the cost of building a house for the two children. The new house cost 150 million VND, of which the Town Youth Union, the Town Youth Union and Tuong Van Pagoda (An Sinh Ward) supported the two children with 50 million VND, the rest was supported by the family.

The "red scarf" house above is one of the volunteer projects, demonstrating the community spirit of Kinh Mon youth.

Ms. Hoang Thi Hang, Secretary of the Town Youth Union, President of the Youth Union of Kinh Mon town, said that in recent years, volunteering for community life has been one of the hallmarks of the association's activities, receiving the support of many youth union members of the town.

During its term, the Town Youth Union mobilized resources to donate 143 youth projects worth nearly 1.5 billion VND; organized 18 medical examination and medicine programs for free for over 3,500 policy families, former youth volunteers, and children in difficult circumstances.

The Association is also one of the few units in the province to organize the program "Car wash to raise funds" and "Free haircut" for patients and children in difficult circumstances. After 2 years of implementation, 95 million VND was collected from the car wash program, the Association at all levels directly gave gifts and donated to youth projects...

The “Winter Volunteer and Spring Volunteer” program was effectively implemented; 3,200 gifts worth 1.6 billion VND were presented to people in difficult circumstances; 5 “Warm Winter in the Highlands” programs were organized in the provinces of Hoa Binh, Son La, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, etc.

“Environmental protection activities have also been actively responded to by all levels of the association. Over the past 5 years, the entire town has organized over 550 Volunteer Saturdays and Green Sundays, attracting over 21,000 youth members to participate; planted over 30,000 trees and shade trees; coordinated the launch of 8 volunteer campaigns to dredge over 15 km of intra-field canals…”, Ms. Hang added.

Active economic development

Not only volunteering for community life, many young people in Kinh Mon have dared to think, dared to do, and worked hard to develop their family economy. After a period of working in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen (born in 1992, in An Phu) decided to return to her hometown to get married and start a business. Because the locality has a tradition of growing onions and garlic, but people mainly sell fresh bulbs, so the economic value is not high. Ms. Quyen borrowed capital through the trust of the Youth Union and the Youth Union to buy machinery, open an onion and garlic processing workshop, creating jobs for many local workers.

In order to support young members in economic development, self-employment and career establishment, the Kinh Mon Town Youth Union has implemented many specific activities, in many forms suitable for each member group such as: providing information, supporting young people to start a business in the direction of digital transformation, online, e-commerce; training, disseminating knowledge about startups; coordinating to equip knowledge about economic development for rural youth associated with digital transformation. In the past term, the Kinh Mon Youth Union organized 120 training sessions, transferring scientific and technical advances to 5,500 young members; supporting 5 start-up ideas of young members in the school sector...

The Association coordinates with the Bank for Social Policies to support young people in borrowing capital under programs and projects to support young people in starting a business. By the end of April 2024, the Youth Union and Association at all levels participated in managing 30 savings and loan groups, providing credit to 1,012 youth union members with a total outstanding debt of nearly 57 billion VND. The Association at all levels also reviewed and coordinated to lend 6 young people 600 million VND under the program "People who have completed their prison sentences"...

With the results and achievements in the movements and activities of the past term, the position and role of Kinh Mon youth have been increasingly affirmed and recognized by local Party committees and authorities.
