Suzuki stops accepting orders for 5-door Jimny due to overproduction

With a current production target of 1,200 cars per month, Suzuki received 50,000 orders in just 4 days. This means customers will have to wait about 3.5 years to receive the new Jimny.

On its website, Suzuki apologized to potential customers affected by the backlog of orders.

The increased demand for the Suzuki Jimny Nomade comes from its longer chassis design and additional doors, which offer convenience and comfort without sacrificing its rugged appearance. 340 mm longer than the three-door version, the Jimny Nomade retains its compact dimensions with an overall length of 3,890 mm.

The Jimny Nomade is currently produced at Suzuki's Gurugram plant in Haryana, India, and has begun to be exported to markets outside Japan, including Southeast Asia, South Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.

The Jimny is a popular small off-roader from Suzuki and is exported to nearly 100 countries around the world. The launch of the 5-door version in Japan marks an important step in Maruti Suzuki's export strategy, making it the second SUV to be manufactured in India after the Fronx.

The Jimny has seen relatively modest sales in the Indian market despite heavy discounts. However, company executives say the Jimny is not a mass-market product and sales cannot be compared to other SUVs.

The Japanese company is working to fulfill existing orders as quickly as possible, but there is no specific date for accepting new orders. The first Jimny Nomades will be delivered in Japan on April 3. Due to high demand, Suzuki has canceled all exhibition events scheduled for the model in Japan.

In April 2024, Suzuki Vietnam launched Jimny imported from Japan and only had one 3-door version, suggested price of 789 million VND for the single-color version, and 799 million VND for the 2-color version.

Jimny has a square design, similar to Mercedes' G-class, but smaller. Despite its small size, the Jimny chassis is a separate type (body-on-frame), which is usually only found on real SUVs. 1.5 engine with 102 horsepower, maximum torque of 130 Nm, 4-speed automatic transmission, 2-wheel drive.

With equipment focused on off-road, Jimny is for those who are passionate about conquering difficult roads, or those who like to go camping by car. The car is suitable for those who already have a car and need another car to satisfy their passion for off-road. The small, cramped rear seat design is not suitable for large families who need to carry a lot of things when traveling.

If comparing the selling price of Jimny with high-chassis cars with similar prices on the market, such as Mazda CX-5, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Corolla Cross, the Japanese car is inferior in terms of amenities, safety technology, storage space, and rear seats. Currently, the car has no direct competitors in the Vietnamese market.
