The number of new HIV infections in Hai Duong decreases every year.

According to the Hai Duong Provincial Hospital for Tropical Diseases, as of mid-November 2024, 3,841 people were found to be infected with HIV in the province. Of these, 1,796 cases have died, and 2,045 people are being managed and treated. All communes, wards and towns in the province have detected people infected with HIV.

Through monitoring over the years, the number of newly discovered HIV cases and the number of people dying from HIV infection tend to decrease each year. In previous years, the number of new infections fluctuated between 75-80 cases/year. In 2023, the whole province had 66 new infections, and in the first 9 months of 2024, 57 people were discovered to be infected with HIV.

Sexual transmission of HIV tends to increase, mainly among homosexuals. The rate of transmission through drug injection is decreasing.

By the end of September 2024, Hai Duong had 1,960 people infected with HIV receiving ARV treatment. The rate of HIV-infected cases receiving ARV treatment with viral loads below the detection threshold reached 95%, 5% higher than the target set by the Ministry of Health. Viral loads below the detection threshold will prevent HIV infection. The province currently has 6 medical facilities providing ARV treatment for people infected with HIV, including the Provincial Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Hoang Tien Prison, Chi Linh City Medical Center, Kinh Mon Town, and Cam Giang and Kim Thanh districts.

The 2024 National Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control with the theme “Fairness and equality in access to HIV/AIDS prevention and control services - Towards ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030” will take place from November 12 to December 12. The Hai Duong Department of Health has developed a plan to implement the action month.
