If in the past billiards was often considered a sport only for men, in recent years, many women have enjoyed playing the cue, especially young people expressing their personality.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang (20 years old) in Hai Duong City sometimes goes to King 86 Billiards Club with her boyfriend. This is an interesting way of entertainment that she chooses after a stressful work week. Ms. Trang often comes to this club because of its spacious space and little smell of cigarette smoke. Not only Ms. Trang, many female friends also come to the club to play billiards.
In recent years, billiards is not only for men but women have confidently expressed their personality when playing the cue.
The trend started when online billiards games created a fever among young people, many of whom were girls. From playing billiards online, many girls went to billiards shops to play directly and test themselves.
Ms. Trang said that when she first started playing, she was very passionate, going to the billiards club 4-5 times a week.
Until now, she still occasionally goes to billiards with her lover to relax and relieve stress. According to her, the most difficult thing about this sport is calculating how to shoot the marble into the holes on the table. Because just a little deviation, the force of the shot is too weak or too strong, can cause the marble to miss the hole.
Walking around billiard parlors in the evening, especially on weekends, it is not difficult to see the image of female billiard players full of personality. Many ladies also show off their skillful skills on the billiard table with attractive ball strokes.
According to a representative of a billiards club in Hai Duong City, in recent years the number of female customers has increased. On weekends, the proportion of women coming to play accounts for about 15% of the number of customers. Women who come to play billiards often go in groups, or go with male friends for support and guidance. Although female billiards players are not as strong and decisive as men, they are very skillful, delicate and flexible.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (19 years old) in Ninh Giang district has been playing billiards for 4 years, has mastered the ability to aim accurately and hold the cue extremely cool on the table, not inferior to her male friends.
Entering a billiards parlor with a group of friends, she took a cue, put on gloves, and rubbed the tip of the cue to reduce friction while playing. The staff arranged 15 marbles into a triangle so that she and her friends could play striped pool. With 4 years of experience playing billiards, it was not difficult for her to win after 20 minutes at the table.
While playing, she also guides the students on hitting techniques. How to look at the target ball, guess its thickness, then look at the cue ball, determine where to press the ball, and the point to aim.
Ms. Ngoc Anh said that billiards is a very attractive sport, the more you play, the more you like it. In Vietnam today, there are many tournaments for this sport along with the success of many famous female players, which has become a source of inspiration for her to love and stick with billiards.
With a cost of only 30,000 - 50,000 VND/table, players have 1 hour to freely aim and shoot, playing with marbles. However, when holding the cue in hand, attracted by the colorful marbles, few people can play in less than 1 hour. This is not a high cost for an entertaining sport.
Many billiard parlors are also encouraging players, especially women, by offering rewards of 100,000 - 200,000 VND to players who have a good shot (hitting the hole continuously from ball 1 to ball 9 with just one shot).
When playing billiards, players are constantly moving around the table, using the muscles of their arms, legs, hips and lower back. These are great exercises to burn calories, build strength and flexibility.
Not only entertaining, billiards is also a game of thinking, requiring players to calculate carefully and have high skills to win. This sport also trains sharp thinking when players have to observe the position of the ball, perform calculations and estimates quickly. Some basic geometry and physics formulas also need to be thought about on the billiard table to calculate angles, trajectories, and determine the force hitting the cue ball to control the speed of the shot. This is also one of the sports included in competitions in a number of domestic and international sports tournaments.
There are 4 basic types of billiards including carom billiards (3-cushion billiards), snooker billiards, pool billiards (sock billiards) and 4-ball billiards. In Hai Duong, pool billiards is the most popular type. This type of billiards is also divided into many different forms including 9-ball billiards, 10-ball billiards, 8-ball billiards with stripes, card billiards and 15-ball American-style rotating billiards.
