Mr. Nguyen Manh Thang is well-known for his propaganda work and of course, music is a "walk in the park" for him. Recently, he has continuously scored points in the music industry by winning many awards in songwriting competitions. Most recently, the song "Hanoi noi nho ngan nam" (Hanoi nostalgic for a thousand years) which he composed for Bui The Duc's poem won the Style award at the songwriting competition "Thanh am Ha Noi" organized by the Hanoi People's Committee; before that, the song "Thuong nho Phu Yen" (Missing Phu Yen) which he composed won first prize in the literary and artistic composition competition - music major organized by the Phu Yen Literature and Arts Association...

The song "Hai Duong is radiant with constructions" has just been released, continuing to mark a new step forward in Mr. Thang's music composition career.

The reason Mr. Thang composed this song is quite special. He said, "Knowing that I have some talent for music, during a meeting, comrade Tran Duc Thang, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, suggested and encouraged me to write about Hai Duong. At that time, I considered this a task, even though I knew it was not an easy task."

Up to now, many famous musicians have composed songs about Hai Duong, many good works have entered the literary life. How can we avoid repeating those compositions, while keeping up with the new breath, reflecting the transformation of Hai Duong? Then the idea of ​​“brilliant works” emerged; very quickly, only about a week later, the song was completed by him.

I commented: "With Hai Duong shining with constructions, he seems to be painting a picture of Hai Duong with music". Nguyen Manh Thang acknowledged. Hai Duong means "light from the coast", when the dawn light shines, it is also the time when the image of a vibrant Hai Duong appears. In the sky, when flocks of white storks from Co Island (Thanh Mien) fly to find food, on the ground, it is also the time when groups of workers go to work at the company; teachers and students go to school; traders import and export goods; officials, civil servants, and public employees go to the office... With such a beautiful homeland, who would not be proud. Mr. Thang cleverly aroused that pride in every Hai Duong person by mentioning the cultural tradition of the heroic Dong province; mentioning that Hai Duong's achievements today are the result of many generations joining hands and contributing to create "projects" such as: "Big roads"; "Beautiful new countryside; green, modern urban areas; specialized economic zones; dynamic industrial zones"... To do that, it is not only the effort of Hai Duong people but also of those who consider Hai Duong as their second homeland. Hai Duong today, these successes are because: "The hands of our homeland, the hands of distant homeland, join hands to build"... The lyrics are short, easy to remember, easy to memorize, easy to touch people's hearts, but in itself, they have the power to call and encourage us to join hands to build, so that Hai Duong can have many new projects.

Nurture your passion

As a teacher, his knowledge of music was only the basic knowledge that Mr. Thang acquired while sitting in school. But that little knowledge was enough to kindle in him a passion for composing music. However, for many reasons, those first compositions were not published. It was not until 2000, when he officially transferred to work in the propaganda sector, that he had the opportunity to compose again. The first song published was "Singing about the propaganda cadre", composed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the sector's tradition. The song was then published in the sector's magazine, local literature and arts magazine and was sung by colleagues in many localities across the country... When asked where he nurtured such a lasting love for music, Mr. Thang said that it was a passion that was in his blood, from a family with a "gene" for literature and art.

He especially received positive thinking from his father, who encouraged him on this path. He said that since he was a child, when he realized that his son had artistic talent, his father was very supportive. When he was in 10th grade, seeing that his son loved to play the guitar, his father sold half of the rice that the whole family ate for half a year, and bought his son a guitar. That made him remember forever and throughout his studies and work, he always remembered what his father said: "Instead of being influenced by vulgar words, learn the lyrics of songs, instead of playing useless games, play and sing to make life more joyful."

Taking his father's words and his work experience, Mr. Thang believes in the mission of music to convey messages of life, it is spiritual food, an unlimited bridge between people, regardless of region, country, ethnicity, gender, age... That's why every song composed by Nguyen Manh Thang is hearty and cheerful. It is not wrong to say that Mr. Thang's compositions are popular, easy to listen to, easy to sing, easy to touch people's hearts. From compositions about the industry, about Hai Duong, about Hanoi or about the sea and islands... he always advocates using short sentences, strong melodies, vibrant, cheerful, true to the style of a person doing propaganda work. Up to now, in his "asset", Mr. Thang has more than 10 self-composed songs, all of which have been widely spread and are valuable fuel for the grassroots art movement.

Hopefully, that propaganda officer will continue to nurture his passion and contribute many new songs to Hai Duong's music scene.
