Accordingly, the Department of Cinema presides over and coordinates with the Vietnam Feature Film Studio, the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio One Member Limited Liability Company, the Vietnam Animation Film Studio Joint Stock Company, the People's Army Cinema, the Department of Culture and Sports, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Film Distribution and Screening Center, the Cinema Center, the Cultural - Cinema Center, the Cultural - Arts Center, and the Cultural Centers of the provinces and centrally-run cities to organize the Film Festival nationwide, from April 30 to May 20, 2024.

The films selected for screening in the Film Series include: Feature film “Dien Bien Memories” (produced by Vietnam Feature Film Studio). Documentaries: “Dien Bien Phu Victory” (produced by People’s Army Cinema), “Dien Bien Phu” and “Accompanying History” (produced by Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio One Member Limited Liability Company). Animated films “Angry Green Forest” and “Super Naughty Old Lady” (produced by Vietnam Animation Studio Joint Stock Company).

Among them, the feature film “Dien Bien Memories” screened in this Film Week was directed by Do Minh Tuan, produced by Vietnam Feature Film Studio in 2004, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. The film is recreated through the memories of Bao and Bernard. The story throughout the film is the meeting between Bernard, Bao and May. Bernard is a sergeant in the Huguette 1 unit directly protecting Muong Thanh airport. Because he hated war so much and could not bear to see his comrades having their legs amputated without anesthesia, Bernard surrendered to save his life. Bao was a soldier in the army unit, he was ordered to lead Bernard to the rear to exploit information.

Along the way, Bernard was injured in a bombing raid by the French. The two accidentally met May, a nurse in a civilian labor unit who was transporting rice to the battlefield. Wanting to return to his unit quickly, Bao asked May to go with him to take care of Bernard. The story became complicated when Bernard suddenly wanted to return to the battlefield to reveal more information to help our army capture Muong Thanh airport, because on the way Bernard was very impressed by our army and people's willingness to fight and sacrifice to the end for independence. Following Bernard's return were a series of misunderstandings and Bao's suffering in his silent first love with May. But, above all those personal feelings, they still fought and were willing to sacrifice for the day of total victory.

Considered a good film about the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, the feature film “Dien Bien Memories” attracts audiences with its interweaving of memories and the present, the skillful combination of past memories and future aspirations. The battle scenes are depicted realistically and vividly, helping audiences clearly feel the danger and sacrifice of soldiers in the battles between our army and the French army. Audiences can also feel the unique beauty of Dien Bien land with the pure white color of the Ban flowers or the sweet taste of the Can rieng flowers…
