On March 22, Lieutenant General To An Xo, chief of office and spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security, said that the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency has just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung - former Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung is being investigated for the crime of taking advantage of his position and power while performing official duties.
This is the latest development in the investigation process of the agency expanding the case of smuggling and violations of regulations on management and use of state assets causing loss and waste occurring in Mong Cai City (Quang Ninh), the Urban Technical Works Maintenance Board under the Hanoi Department of Construction, and the Hanoi Green Parks and Trees Company.
Initial investigation results determined that Mr. Chung, when he was Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, took advantage of his position and power to violate state regulations so that the Green Ecology Company, Hanoi Green Tree Company and Nguyen Tuan Nghia were assigned by the Hanoi People's Committee to place orders to plant trees in the capital from 2016-2018.
Notably, according to the investigation agency, the above companies and Nguyen Tuan Nghia have a close relationship with Mr. Chung.
From the facilitation of Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, the above individuals and organizations have benefited from an exceptionally large amount of money, causing serious damage to state assets.
