Vietnamese female lecturer qualified as professor in France in 2024

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep, lecturer at Quy Nhon University, has become the only Vietnamese person to meet the standards of a professor in France in 2024.

The French Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Research and Innovation has just announced the list of candidates who meet the standards for professorship in France in 2024, including Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep.

Top 3 best candidates who meet professor standards for all three positions

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep was born in 1983, from Hoai An district, Binh Dinh province, and is currently head of the department of applied biology - agriculture, faculty of natural sciences, Quy Nhon University.

Notably, among the total of 244 candidates meeting the professorship standards in France this year, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep is also in the top 3 most excellent candidates when meeting the standards for all three positions applied for in the majors of physiology (physiologie), biochemistry and molecular biology (biochimie et biologie moléculaire) and organism biology (biologie des organismses).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep's name is on the list of candidates who meet the standards for professorship in France in 2024.

According to experts, the fact that a Vietnamese female lecturer has achieved the standard of a professor in a country with a leading education system like France is a proud achievement.

This will open up many opportunities for research development, attract funding for Ms. Diep's research projects, and create favorable conditions to promote educational and training cooperation between Vietnam and France.

To become a professor in France, candidates must pass many mandatory criteria: have a doctorate in science (HDR), be the head of research projects, have many prestigious international publications, publish international books, have teaching experience, and have guided interns, students, and graduate students...

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep is currently in France conducting a collaborative research project at the French National Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAe) in the field of biomedical sciences. To carry out this project, Ms. Diep spends 3-6 months working in France each year.

Female scientists have made many contributions to the biomedical field.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2005 and being retained by Quy Nhon University as a lecturer, Ms. Mong Diep began researching agricultural biotechnology. The female lecturer always considers scientific research a task to improve knowledge for teaching.

In 2009, she received a master's degree in experimental biology from Quy Nhon University.

She received her PhD in Biology, majoring in Life Sciences and Health from François Rabelais University, France.

At the end of 2016, she continued to go to France to do postdoctoral research and collaborate on research at the invitation of Professor Yves Combarnous at the French National Center for Scientific Research. In 2022, she successfully defended her doctorate in science in France.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep was recognized as meeting the standards for the title of associate professor in 2019.

Having been involved in biomedical science for over 10 years, this 41-year-old female lecturer has made many positive contributions in teaching and research, helping to bridge Vietnamese science closer to the world.

Fate brought her to biomedical science in 2011, when she was a researcher at the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), studying the role of the protein AMPK (an important protein in cellular energy metabolism).

After successfully defending her doctoral thesis, although she received an invitation to do a postdoctoral research at Kentstate University (USA) and INRA, Ms. Diep refused.

She chose to return to Vietnam to pursue her dream of building a laboratory at Quy Nhon University, both to open up new research directions in biomedical science in the province and to serve teaching.

Lecturer Nguyen Thi Mong Diep is one of 33 teachers honored in the 2023 outstanding university teacher program.

Previously, in January 2021, at the ASIA Economic Integration Forum in Hanoi, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Mong Diep was in the top 10 intellectuals, creative scientists and outstanding contributors of ASIA.
