In the days after the merger, farmers in Cam Viet commune (merged from Cam Che commune and Viet Hong commune, Thanh Ha, Hai Duong) were excited when the price of off-season guava was high.
Cam Viet Commune (Thanh Ha) has about 150 hectares of guava, of which 40 hectares are planted in concentrated areas. Guava is selected as a local OCOP product and has achieved 3-star OCOP standards.Due to the impact of storm No. 3, guava production in Cam Viet as well as other communes in Thanh Ha district is not as much as in previous years. However, guava prices this year are more expensive than many years ago. The selling price at the garden on December 7 ranged from 15,000-16,000 VND/kg, an increase of 3,000-4,000 VND/kg over the same period last year. Due to the small quantity of guava, traders in Cam Viet commune purchased from all over the region to have enough goods to sell to the markets in Hanoi, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, etc.According to many traders, this year's guavas are bigger, sweeter and softer than previous years because after the storm people focused on taking care of them. Although the yield is not much, everyone is excited because of the good price. On average, every day, Mr. Le Thai Ha buys about 800 kg of guava to deliver to pre-ordered locations.Guava in Cam Viet commune is mainly Thai guava. People start growing off-season guava from April and harvest it in October. Previously, off-season kumquat was the main crop of the old Cam Che commune, but for many years now, people here have gradually switched to growing guava because this type of tree brings higher economic value.Guava is carefully cared for by farmers, covered with plastic right from the time the fruit is young to avoid pests and diseases.MINH NGUYEN
