In addition to their material value, the "Comradely Love" houses also have great spiritual meaning and value, enhancing the comradely love of Hai Duong veterans - Uncle Ho's soldiers.
Joy in the new home
Following the small road to the end of Dong Lac village, Hong Duc commune (Ninh Giang), we visited the new house of veteran Nguyen Ba Nhien (86 years old). At his old age, living in a spacious, clean and beautiful house is something Mr. Nhien has long wished for. The new house was built on the old foundation, he could not help but be happy, excited and reassured every time there was heavy rain and strong winds.
According to Mr. Nguyen Phu Van, Chairman of the Hong Duc Commune Veterans Association, Mr. Nhien is old but lives alone in a seriously degraded level 4 house. Storm No. 3 blew off the roof of the house, making it uninhabitable. After reviewing, the Provincial Veterans Association supported 30 million VND, along with the contributions of the family's children and grandchildren, the "Comradely Love" house was completed.
“This year, we have supported the construction of 2 houses for members. Previously, in July, veterans in the commune supported labor days, joining hands with the Fatherland Front of Hai Duong province to complete a house for member Pham Van Ve, who is in difficult circumstances in Mai Dong village. Seeing our comrades living in new houses, we are very happy,” said Mr. Van.
These days, Mr. Le Van Xuyen (77 years old) in Qua Bo village, Lien Hong commune (Hai Duong city) is busy looking after the house under construction. Mr. Xuyen and his wife live in a level 4 house built in the 90s of the last century. Both of them have no source of income so they have to rely on the support of their children. The house has deteriorated and was completely damaged by storm No. 3. Mr. Xuyen and his wife have to stay at a neighbor's house. With the support of the Provincial Veterans Association and their children, they rebuilt a spacious house to live in. The house was built on an area of over 100 m2. Currently, the construction team is speeding up the progress, striving to complete before Lunar New Year this year.
Mr. Xuyen shared: “All of our children work far away, so only the old couple lives in a level 4 house. Storm No. 3 completely blew off the roof of the house. At that time, my wife and I were lucky to escape. Living in a big, beautiful house is something my wife and I never dared to think about. But with the support of our teammates and children, we are about to move into a new house.”
Excited and moved are the feelings of many other veteran members in the province when they live in new houses contributed and built by their comrades. Because for many veterans, poor health due to war consequences combined with old age becomes a burden that makes them unable to afford to build a house. The understanding and sharing of their comrades is like spiritual medicine to help them feel secure and make efforts every day.
Team spirit is stronger
Over the years, what Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Vice President of the Veterans Association of Lien Hong Commune (Hai Duong City) has always been proud of is that "no member is left behind". The Veterans Association of the commune always cares for and helps members develop their family economy and reduce poverty. The whole commune has more than 500 members, poor members with difficult circumstances are all cared for and supported with housing and created conditions to help develop their family economy.
During the 2019-2024 period, the Provincial Veterans Association at all levels mobilized over 22.3 billion VND to support the construction of 87 houses and repair 187 houses. The Provincial Veterans Association contributed over 5.2 billion VND, the rest was supported by benefactors, families and clans. To have more new houses imbued with comradeship, the old soldiers are still working hard to mobilize and find sources of support inside and outside the district.
In 2024 alone, the Veterans Association at all levels in the province coordinated to support the repair and construction of 86 "Comradeship" houses with a total value of more than 10.2 billion VND for veteran members in difficult circumstances. Typically, the Veterans Association of Ninh Giang district launched the "Saving for comrades' houses" movement, supporting the construction and repair of 22 houses with a total value of more than 1.6 billion VND.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chinh, Head of the Movement - Office, Provincial Veterans Association, said that the "Comradeship" houses have helped many veterans have conditions to settle down and stabilize their lives, contributing positively to the construction of new rural areas, poverty reduction, and socio-economic development in localities. In addition to the material value, each newly built or repaired house also has great meaning and spiritual value, enhancing the comradeship and comradeship of soldiers in peacetime.
