During the war against the US, Khe Sanh was the terror of the US army. Today, the photos displayed at the Route 9 - Khe Sanh Victory Museum explain why Route 9 - Khe Sanh was once considered a "second Dien Bien Phu" in the resistance war against the US of the Vietnamese army and people.

With only a modest area in the Ta Con airport campus (Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province), but with the preserved photos and artifacts, the Road 9 - Khe Sanh Victory Museum contains a huge amount of information, partly reflecting the fierceness of the Road 9 - Khe Sanh Campaign between the Vietnam People's Army and the US Marine Corps.

In order to gain an advantage in the campaign, since 1966, the US army has poured troops and modern equipment into Khe Sanh basin to build military bases.

On the night of January 20, 1968, the armed forces of the liberation army suddenly opened fire and attacked the Khe Sanh stronghold, strongly threatening the enemy's Route 9 defense line.

During this campaign, tens of thousands of tons of modern weapons and equipment were dumped by the US military into Khe Sanh basin to gain the upper hand over the liberation army. The strong attack of the liberation army caused the US army in Khe Sanh to be under great pressure. On February 10, almost all the US soldiers fell into a state of psychological crisis when the Marine Corps C-130 was hit by bullets, forcing an emergency landing at Khe Sanh. The US soldiers were now worried that they would not receive reinforcements and that the casualties would not be transferred from the battlefield.
