Since the beginning of the year, hundreds of households in Thanh Mien town have voluntarily donated land and contributed funds to widen the road.

Households in lane 2, Doan The Bat street, Hoa Binh residential area, Thanh Mien town urgently complete the road expansion.

In 2023, Thanh Mien town will carry out breakthrough work to mobilize all resources to focus on completing the traffic system in residential areas. This is also a hard criterion for this locality to strive to become a type IV urban area in 2025. Due to limited budget resources, Thanh Mien town has promoted and mobilized people to join hands in road construction. With the motto "The State and the people work together", the movement of contributing money and donating land to expand traffic routes in Thanh Mien town is spreading widely.

Despite the hot August sun, 54 households in lane 2, Doan The Bat street, Hoa Binh residential area still focused on pouring concrete to build a road. Some shoveled, some leveled, while working, they encouraged each other, making the atmosphere at the small construction site very exciting. Mr. Nguyen Van Dao (65 years old) said that this road is about 170 m long and was built a long time ago, many sections have seriously degraded. The road surface is only 2 m wide, there is no drainage system, so it cannot meet the current travel and living needs of the households. Responding to the local breakthrough work, households in the hamlet mobilized each other to voluntarily donate land and contribute funds to widen the road. "Each person contributed 4 million VND and donated about 100 m2 of land. Many households had to destroy the surrounding walls, fences, auxiliary works, gates... to widen the road from 2 m to 3 m. My family also voluntarily dismantled 15 m of the surrounding wall," said Mr. Dao.

Thanks to skillful mass mobilization, many households in Thanh Mien town voluntarily donated land to build roads.

In lane 7, Nguyen Cong Hoa street, there are over 30 households living. To complete the 120m long road, the households here have to contribute about 200 million VND. The small number of households means the contribution is also higher. However, at the first meeting to discuss the implementation plan, 100% of the households agreed and voluntarily contributed the cost of road expansion. Among them, there are some households who, despite their economic difficulties, are still determined to "pay enough, donate enough" for the common goal of the town.

Mr. Pham Quang Song is one of the pioneers in the socialization movement to build a road in lane 7, Nguyen Cong Hoa street. As soon as the policy was announced, he took the initiative to break down the gate and surrounding wall of his family to get land to build a road. Currently, the road in lane 7 has been cleared. Households are focusing on building a drainage system to be able to pour concrete by the end of August. "Every inch of land is worth an inch of gold, but everyone is wholeheartedly devoted to the common cause and is willing to donate land to widen the road," said Mr. Song.

The drainage system is built in sync with the traffic system.

According to Mr. Do Tien Tuyen, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Phu Noi Residential Area, the area currently has 4 hamlets that are upgrading and expanding roads with a total length of about 600 m, with a total cost of about 2 billion VND. In addition to supporting 100% of the road construction costs, households also donated hundreds of square meters of land and many days of labor.

According to Chairman of Thanh Mien Town People's Committee Pham Quang Hung, by early August, 10 hamlets and residential areas of the town had registered to upgrade and expand roads. The total length of the roads is nearly 1.5 km with an estimated cost of about 5,228 billion VND. To encourage the people, the town government has decided to support 20% of the total cost for hamlets to build roads in 2023. After being upgraded and expanded, the roads will fully meet the criteria of a type IV urban area, creating momentum for local economic development.

"Land is a valuable asset, so donating land is not an easy decision. Therefore, the consensus and contribution of the town's people is worth recognizing and praising," said Mr. Hung.
