On June 21, the Center for Disease Control of Hai Duong province conducted an epidemiological investigation and confirmed that the deceased rabies case was Mr. VVT (49 years old, in Tan Truong village, Le Loi commune, Chi Linh city). Mr. T. contracted rabies after being bitten by a dog.
According to Mr. T.'s wife, about 2 months ago, in the morning, Mr. T. opened the gate and saw a strange dog entering the house. When Mr. T.'s family dog barked, the strange dog was startled and rushed to bite Mr. T.'s left palm. His family and the village health workers reminded and advised Mr. T. to get a rabies vaccination, but he subjectively did not get the vaccination.
On the afternoon of June 16, Mr. T. showed signs of numbness in his left arm. On June 17, Mr. T.'s left arm became more numb, accompanied by nausea, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Mr. T. went to the Con Son General Clinic for examination.
On June 18, Mr. T. and his wife went to Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi) for examination and treatment for rabies. On June 19, Mr. T. was transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases and diagnosed with rabies. On the morning of June 20, Mr. T. died.
Master, Doctor Hoang Van Huynh, Deputy Director of the Center for Disease Control of Hai Duong province said: Rabies is a dangerous infectious disease caused by the rabies virus. The disease is mainly transmitted when infected dogs and cats bite or scratch people, causing damage to the skin and mucous membranes, or when animals lick damaged skin and mucous membranes.
There is currently no specific treatment for people infected with rabies who have developed the disease. When people infected with rabies show symptoms, they all die.
Information circulating about traditional medicine facilities or herbal remedies that can treat rabies or can detect whether or not you are infected with the rabies virus is false and misleading.
Once infected with rabies virus, there is only one way to prevent it, which is to treat the wound to remove the rabies virus and then immediately inject rabies vaccine or combine it with rabies serum injection as soon as possible...
In Hai Duong, from 2016 to now, there have been 6 deaths due to rabies. Of which, Chi Linh City has 4 cases, the remaining 2 cases are in Binh Giang and Kim Thanh districts. By the end of May 2024, more than 600 people have come to the Provincial Center for Disease Control and some vaccination points for rabies vaccination services due to dog and cat bites.
