On October 7, at the women's health care festival "Healthy spine, youthful life", Dr. Marc Tafuro, an American chiropractor, said that one of the causes of chronic bone and joint pain is that we sit too much.
The Women’s Health Care Festival “Healthy Spine, Young Life” attracted a large number of people in Ho Chi Minh City to participate. This is a community activity organized by ACC Clinic - a member of FV Group, aiming at Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20), thereby providing useful information for women to improve their health and prevent musculoskeletal diseases.
At the event, people also received free musculoskeletal health screening; nutritional advice and body mass index measurements such as water, muscle, and fat for women.
According to Dr. Marc Tafuro, common bone and joint diseases in women are back pain, neck pain, knee pain, spinal degeneration, and herniated discs. These are diseases that cause a lot of pain and inconvenience to the patient. If not treated early, they will have dangerous complications and reduce the quality of life.
Specifically, at ACC clinic, there are many female patients coming to treat common diseases such as lumbar disc herniation, cervical spondylosis, sciatica, back pain during pregnancy, knee pain due to flat feet, neck and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome...
“When we sit too much, the spine gradually loses its natural curvature and begins to degenerate. Furthermore, when we sit, our necks tend to stretch forward, gradually losing their natural curvature and facing the risk of inflammation and degeneration. This is also the cause of chronic joint pain. In addition, wearing high heels also contributes to affecting the spine and is the cause of joint pain in women,” explained Dr. Marc Tafuro.
According to medical experts, through statistics, women suffer from bone and joint diseases more than men. This condition is due to many reasons: women's joint and ligament structure is weaker than men's, women's bones are smaller and thinner so they are more vulnerable, the decrease in female hormones during pregnancy, childbirth and pre-menopause also causes women's bones and joints to weaken faster, leading to bone and joint diseases.
To prevent bone and joint pain, Dr. Marc Tafuro advises people to pay attention to adjusting their lifestyle, maintaining a reasonable weight, exercising regularly, preventing injuries and controlling stress, especially stress control.
For office workers, it is difficult to avoid sitting in front of the computer for a long time, so Dr. Marc Tafuro recommends that people can exercise more by setting a timer to stand up and walk around after a certain period of time; should adjust the way they use the phone, avoid bending over to avoid harming the spine.
