On October 13, the Ministry of Education of Myanmar said that a total of 268 schools in the Bago region, southern Myanmar, had to temporarily close due to severe flooding.
According to the ministry, some schools have been able to reopen as the water has receded, while many schools are working to overcome the consequences of the flood.
Heavy rains that have been continuing since October 8 in Bago have caused widespread flooding and disrupted transportation, forcing authorities to evacuate thousands of people. In addition to Bago, the floods that have been continuing since July have also severely affected nine states and localities in Myanmar, including Rakhine, Kachin, Karen, Mon and Chin.
