According to Myanmar state media, the death toll from the earthquake has risen to 3,471, with 4,671 people injured and 214 others still missing.

Aid agencies warn the combination of unseasonal rains and high temperatures could trigger outbreaks of disease, including cholera, among earthquake survivors now camping out in the open.

On social network X, UN relief chief Tom Fletcher said: "Families are sleeping outside the rubble of their homes, while the bodies of their loved ones are being pulled from the rubble. There is real concern about the risk of more earthquakes."

Myanmar's neighbors China, India and countries in Southeast Asia are among those that have sent aid and rescue workers over the past week to support recovery efforts in quake-hit areas in Myanmar.

The United States has pledged at least $9 million in aid to Myanmar to support earthquake-affected communities, but officials say the US government's decision to dissolve the Agency for International Development (USAID) has affected its ability to provide assistance to Myanmar.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Thailand, the government said the death toll from the earthquake in the country has risen to 24, including 17 people killed in the collapse of a skyscraper in the capital Bangkok, while 77 others are still missing there.
