On April 5, the Chinese government officially voiced its opposition to the US's abuse of tariffs against trading partner countries, including China.

Beijing said these actions have infringed upon the legitimate rights of countries, violated the regulations of the World Trade Organization (WTO), negatively affected the multilateral trading system and disrupted the global economic order.

The Chinese government believes that the US's imposition of high tariffs on its trading partners is inconsistent with economic fundamentals and market principles, and ignores the balance of interests reached in international trade negotiations.

The Chinese government affirmed that it will continue to take necessary measures to safeguard national interests and promote sustainable development. China stressed that economic relations between the two countries should be based on the principle of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Earlier that morning, six major Chinese chambers of commerce, including pharmaceutical, food, metal and textile industries, issued a joint statement opposing the US's imposition of tariffs on products exported from China, and supporting the Chinese government's countermeasures.
