The US Department of Defense and Lookheed Martin Corporation confirmed the above deal on July 18.
The agreement is seen as the starting point for finalizing the contract pricing, a process that observers say could take weeks or months, amid declining F-35 production and record inflation.
This leaves the final value of the deal to buy a new batch of F-35 aircraft between the US Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin, as well as the cost of each aircraft, still unknown. Reuters news agency said the value of this contract is about 30 billion USD.
The F-35A is the most popular version of the jet today. So far, the US has spent about 79 million USD to own planes of this type.
The final number of aircraft in the deal could change depending on "any adjustments the US Congress makes in the fiscal year 2023 budget and any orders requested by international partners", according to the Pentagon.
