Due to the impact of floods upstream, the hydroelectric reservoir discharged floodwaters, and rising river water levels in the Hai Duong area, on the afternoon of September 9, some river banks in the province were flooded.
According to the provincial Hydrometeorological Station, due to the impact of upstream floods and the opening of two bottom spillways at Hoa Binh Hydropower Reservoir, the water level in Hai Duong area rose. At 1 p.m. on September 9, the water level of Thai Binh River at Pha Lai reached 4.12 m, 0.12 m higher; Kinh Thay River at Ben Binh reached 3.08 m, 0.58 m higher; Kinh Mon River at An Phu reached 2.24 m, 0.04 m higher than the first alarm level.
Rising river water has caused some river banks in the province to be flooded. Currently, the area outside the river banks is not large for growing vegetables because it is in the transition period. However, there are still some areas of herbs, watermelons, cantaloupes, etc. outside the banks that people have not yet harvested.
Previously, many yards outside the dike had been cleared of materials and structures to ensure flood escape corridors. However, on September 9, some yards were still loaded on the surface.
According to forecasts, from September 10-11, the water level in Hai Duong area will continue to rise by 1-3 m. Thai Binh, Kinh Thay, Rang rivers... are likely to reach alert level II. The Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue has issued telegram No. 09, issuing an alarm on Thai Binh River, requesting all levels and sectors to urgently deploy response measures when the river water rises.
