Border residents' procedures to go to China to exchange goods have returned to normal, as before the Covid epidemic, after nearly 2 weeks of Mong Cai International Border Gate restoring this function.
From early morning, residents at the border were present at the border gate area to move to the exit waiting room to complete procedures.
According to the reporter's records at the weekend, at Mong Cai International Border Gate, Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh, because it was a holiday, there were many border residents lining up to complete exit procedures to China.
Since early morning, hundreds of people have been present at the side gate of Mong Cai International Border Gate waiting for the opening time. Here, everyone has their documents ready to complete exit procedures.
After the doors open, everyone will move to the departure lounge to line up. The authorities will check the documents to see if those who have gone through the procedures have exceeded the allowed number of times.
Next, people will go to China to buy consumer goods and then re-enter the country. The exit and entry will be completed within the day.
"I go to Bac Luan 1 bridge to exchange goods and then bring them back in a handbag. Each trip I get about 200 to 300 thousand depending on the type of goods and weight," said Ms. D.TV (a resident of Tran Phu ward, Mong Cai city).
Inside the crowded departure lounge, people are checking in to go to China to buy goods.
Due to the large number of people, along with groups of Chinese tourists entering the country for tourism, the authorities here are always working hard to avoid chaos.
Lieutenant Colonel Diep Manh Hao (Political Commissar of Mong Cai International Border Gate Border Guard Station) said that from March 15, the border gate has resumed normal operations, and border residents have begun to come to complete exit procedures to China.
The people who complete exit procedures to China to exchange goods are residents with household registration in border areas. On the first day the border gate was operating normally, more than 10 days ago, the number of people coming to complete exit procedures was still sparse. However, the number of people coming to complete procedures each day has gradually increased. Now, after 15 days since the border gate reopened, the authorities have processed tens of thousands of procedures for residents and tourists every day.
The elderly also take advantage of going to China to carry goods to earn money.
These people go to China to buy and exchange goods, mainly consumer goods such as clothes, shoes, garment accessories, toilet paper, paper towels and some production tools.
"Each person will be allowed to go through exit procedures to China to buy and exchange goods no more than 4 times/month and each time the amount of goods must not exceed 2 million VND. Recently, the border force has been completing exit and entry procedures for about 15,000 people every day, both tourists and border residents," said Lieutenant Colonel Hao.
Previously, due to China's Zero Covid policy, it had temporarily suspended the movement of people and tourists from both sides of the border. On January 21, 2024, China began to resume normal activities for tourists to cross the Mong Cai International Border Gate, but some activities were still restricted.
By March 15, all activities at the Mong Cai (Vietnam) and Dongxing (China) border gates had returned to normal, with the exchange of goods by border residents being one of the last activities to reopen.
People living along the border between the two countries can complete exit and entry procedures to buy and sell goods as before the Covid-19 pandemic.
