The exterior of the second generation MG5 is inspired by the MG7 luxury sedan, along with many new upgrades to the interior.
Five years after its debut at the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, the MG5 C-class sedan has officially launched a mid-life facelift with a more modern design.
As a facelift, the wheelbase of the car remains the same at 2,680 mm. The length of the car has increased by 40 mm, reaching 4,715 mm. The front of the car is inspired by its elder brother MG7.
Still keeping the design that gradually tapers to the luggage compartment, MG5 has a new LED taillight cluster design and rear bumper diffuser in the same color as the exterior.
The biggest difference when entering the cockpit of the new MG5 is the overall design has been refined in a symmetrical direction. The diamond-shaped chrome air-conditioning vents are also an interior highlight.
The digital dashboard and central touchscreen are both 12.3 inches in size with a redesigned interface. The center console has a simplified number of buttons.
The base version still uses a 129-horsepower, 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT. The higher-end version uses a 181-horsepower, 285-Nm turbocharged engine, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The car is equipped with a 540-degree panoramic surveillance camera, and also said that the chassis has a torsional strength of up to 25,866 Nm/degree. The carmaker hopes to improve the zero-star ANCAP rating by the end of 2023.
Customers will be able to see the model in person at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2024. SAIC Group expects the new MG5 to continue its success as the previous version, which accounted for 50% of MG's sales in the first half of 2024.
