VinFast is currently a name that is stirring up the Vietnamese automobile market by changing the order of many sales rankings. Not only its own products, this company is also the leading name in the entire market with a large gap compared to its competitors.

In March, VinFast sold more than 12,100 cars, a number even larger than all competitors (only counting passenger cars) sold in 3 months. Before VinFast, no car company had created such a big advantage.

The biggest contributors to VinFast's number one market position are small, high-chassis models, mainly aimed at first-time buyers and service businesses such as VF 5 - more than 4,400 cars, VF 3 - more than 3,700 cars. Sales of both are almost separate from competitors in the same segment.

The more accessible price of the battery, the free battery charging policy until mid-2027 stimulate people's demand for VinFast electric cars. The trend of switching to electric cars of individuals and service companies creates more diverse output for VinFast, besides Xanh SM. These create the motivation for the Vietnamese company's sales to explode in the early stages of 2025.

Toyota still holds the position of the company that sells the most internal combustion engine vehicles in the market. The Japanese joint venture does not have a pure electric product in Vietnam but is a leader in the hybrid vehicle segment with names such as Altis, Camry, Corolla Cross.

Compared to the same period in 2024, Toyota's sales nearly doubled thanks to the good sales of Vios, the company's flagship product. In addition, Yaris Cross also contributed greatly when it was the best-selling B-class CUV segment (excluding electric vehicles) in the first 3 months of 2025.

Hyundai lost its third place to Ford. Although Accent still sells well, other key models such as i10, Creta, Santa Fe are all lackluster in the segment. Meanwhile, Ford has maintained its upward trend since 2024 thanks to most of its products being in the latest generation. The company and Ford dealers also offer strong promotions to stimulate consumer demand.

For Mitsubishi, the 5th best-selling car brand in the market, Xforce and Xpander are still the two "golden goose". Sales of nearly 8,000 cars in the first quarter of 2025 of the Japanese company increased by 31% compared to the same period in 2024, when the B-size CUV model - Xforce - went on sale in March. Xpander, the best-selling MPV in Vietnam, contributes about 55% of Mitsubishi's market share.

Kia and Mazda, two brands assembled and distributed by Truong Hai, saw contrasting sales growth. Kia fell slightly by 1%, while Mazda increased by 12%. Both sold more than 6,000 vehicles after the first quarter of 2025.

Kia's sales have stagnated in the past two years as its once-dominant products such as Morning, K3, Seltos, and Sonet have faced fierce competition from Japanese rivals and small, pure electric SUVs. Mazda still relies heavily on the CX-5, while other products are less competitive in the segment. The C-size CUV alone accounts for nearly 50% of Mazda's sales.

Competing with Kia and Mazda at over 6,000 vehicles is Honda. Compared to the first 3 months of 2024, Honda's sales in the same period of 2025 have almost stagnated. City and CR-V are still the two main products of the Japanese company. Honda has BR-V with improved sales but the HR-V, a new model with an upgraded version, is the opposite.

The bottom group of the market sales rankings are still familiar names such as Peugeot, Isuzu, Suzuki with sales of less than 1,000 vehicles after 3 months.
