New coach Kim Sang Sik only receives a suitable salary when leading the Vietnamese team.
On May 3, VFF announced the selection of Mr. Kim Sang Sik as Head Coach of the Vietnam national football team and U23 team, the contract between the two sides is for a period of 2 years.
Coach Kim Sang Sik is the second Korean coach to lead the Vietnam national team and U23 Vietnam after Coach Park Hang Seo.
However, compared to Mr. Park's salary of 50,000 USD/month (after tax) when he renewed his 3-year contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in November 2019, Mr. Kim's salary is much lower.
Specifically, Coach Kim Sang Sik's salary is said to be only around 20,000 to 22,000 USD/month (after tax) in a 2-year contract. This is also the salary that Mr. Park received when he first came to Vietnam and signed a 2-year contract with VFF in October 2017.
Although he does not have a high salary, Coach Kim Sang Sik is allowed to bring 3 assistants from his homeland to work in Vietnam. They are 1 technical assistant, 1 fitness coach and 1 manager.
For now, the identity of Coach Kim Sang Sik's assistant coach was revealed by the Korean press today (May 3). That is Coach Choi Won Kwon, a former U23 and Korean national team player.
Mr. Choi Won Kwon, born in 1981, has been the Head Coach of Daegu Club since 2022 and was just fired on April 19 due to the team's poor performance.
In addition to 3 Korean assistants, Coach Kim Sang Sik will be assisted by a team of 9 Vietnamese people including doctors, translators, technical staff, logistics, data analysis...
According to information, VFF will arrange one of Mr. Park's two former language assistants, Mr. Le Huy Khoa or Vu Anh Thang, to interpret for new coach Kim Sang Sik. However, according to Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi, it is likely that VFF will only look for a Korean interpreter.
Coach Kim Sang Sik is expected to arrive in Hanoi at 1:00 p.m. on May 5. After settling in, the 48-year-old coach will have a meeting with the VFF to immediately get to work.
If he has time, Coach Kim Sang Sik will go to Hang Day Stadium to watch the match between The Cong - Viettel and Hoang Anh Gia Lai in round 16 of V-League 2023 - 2024 on the same evening. Otherwise, Mr. Kim will watch the match on television.
Mr. Troussier used to receive a salary of 125,000 USD/month as the technical director of the PVF Football Training Center. However, the French coach accepted a salary cut, only receiving about 50,000 USD/month (after tax) to lead the Vietnamese team with the desire to play football and demonstrate his philosophy.
Despite the goodwill, the relationship between Mr. Troussier and VFF ended early on March 26, after only 1 year of working together when the Vietnamese team suffered consecutive failures in all competitions.
Mr. Kim Sang Sik was chosen by VFF to lead the national team and U23 team after Mr. Troussier left.
