Coach Park Hang Seo's success and cultural similarities are the reasons why Mr. Kim Sang Sik became the Head Coach of the Vietnam national team.
After a long period of consideration, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has officially announced that Mr. Kim Sang Sik will take on the position of head coach of the Vietnam national team and Vietnam U23 team with a 2-year contract.
According to News Worker (Korea), the success of Coach Park Hang Seo has brought Vietnamese football to a new level. Therefore, VFF decided to choose a more prestigious coach from Europe, Philippe Troussier, with the hope of raising the level of Vietnamese football even further.
The main reason given by News Worker for choosing Mr. Kim Sang Sik is the success of Mr. Park Hang Seo before. Coach Park's success led to the trend of Korean coaches in Southeast Asian countries. The peak was the achievement of Coach Shin Tae Yong with U23 Indonesia at the 2024 U23 Asia, causing Vietnam to return to choosing a Korean coach.
