BYD electric car series to be sold in Vietnam

BYD, China's largest electric vehicle manufacturer and global sales leader, is completing the final preparations to start doing business in Vietnam from June. The company said that BYD's product range for Vietnamese customers spans many segments, from hatchbacks, sedans to SUVs.

BYD models to be launched in June are the Atto 3, Dolphin and Seal, while the Han, Tang and Song will be added in October.

Atto 3

The BYD Atto 3 small crossover model leads the list of products that go on sale earliest. Atto 3 is halfway between VinFast's VF 6 and VF 7 with dimensions of length, width, and height of 4,455 x 1,875 x 1,615 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. The main competitors that Atto 3 targets are B+ gasoline-powered crossovers, such as the Toyota Corolla Cross.

In the neighboring market of Thailand, BYD Atto 3 is the best-selling electric car model. The car is equipped with a 60.48 kWh battery pack, providing a range of 480 km after each full charge. The car's electric motor has a capacity of 201 horsepower and a torque of 310 Nm.

Seal

With a stylish fastback design, BYD Seal is a D-size sedan aimed at young customers. The car is 4,800 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, 1,460 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. These parameters are equivalent to the Toyota Camry with dimensions of 4,885 x 1,840 x 1,445 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,825 mm.

BYD Seal uses a 61.4 kWh or 82.5 kWh battery platform, with a range of 460-570 km. The electric motor on the rear axle produces 201-308 horsepower. With the 4-wheel drive version, the electric motor on the front/rear axles reaches 523 horsepower. In the highest version, Seal accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

Dolphin

With dimensions of length x width x height of 4,290 x 1,770 x 1,570 mm, wheelbase of 2,700 mm, BYD Dolphin is positioned as a B-size 5-door hatchback. With a youthful and dynamic appearance, Dolphin targets gasoline-powered competitors such as Toyota Yaris or Suzuki Swift.

Dolphin is equipped with a 44.9 kWh battery pack, providing a range of 340 km. The electric motor is mounted on the front axle, with a capacity of 95 horsepower and a torque of 180 Nm. With a regular 7.4 kW charger from a home AC power source, the battery can be fully charged in about 7 hours.

Han

BYD Han is built by the Chinese car company as the largest sedan (E-size), the most premium in the product range. The length x width x height of Han is 4,995 x 1,910 x 1,490 mm. The wheelbase is 2,920 mm. This size is at the threshold of Lexus ES, Mercedes E-class.

Han has two powertrain options: plug-in hybrid and pure electric. The pure electric EV version has an 85.4 kWh battery pack, with a range of 521 km. The electric motors on the front/rear axles produce a total capacity of 509 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Tang

The 3-row D-size SUV, BYD Tang, has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,870 x 1,950 x 1,725 ​​mm, wheelbase of 2,820 mm. These parameters are slightly better than gasoline-powered models such as Hyundai Santa Fe 4,785 x 1,900 x 1,720 mm, wheelbase of 2,765 mm or Toyota Fortuner with dimensions of 4,795 x 1,855 x 1,835 mm, wheelbase of 2,745 mm.

The Tang has two engine options, including hybrid and pure electric. The pure electric version has three variants, 90.3 kWh battery - 600 km range, 108.8 kWh battery - 730 km range (front-wheel drive), 108.8 kWh battery - 635 km range (2-wheel drive).

The plug-in hybrid variant of the Tang uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. In pure electric mode, the car can travel 112-200 km under normal conditions of use.

Song

Compared to Tang, BYD Song is softer thanks to its fastback design and more sporty. The car has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,840 x 1,950 x 1,560 mm, wheelbase of 2,930 mm. The car also offers two powertrains: plug-in hybrid and pure electric.

The pure electric version of the Song is equipped with a 71.8 kWh battery, giving a range of 550 km. The other option is an 87 kWh battery, with a range of 662 km. All are rear-wheel drive thanks to an electric motor with a capacity of 201 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque.

The hybrid version is equipped with a 1.5 turbocharged engine with a capacity of 108 horsepower. It is accompanied by an electric motor with a capacity of 194 horsepower and a torque of 325 Nm.
