The traditional festival commemorating the 773rd death anniversary of King An Sinh Tran Lieu (1251-2024) will take place on May 8 (April 1 of the lunar calendar) at the special national relic site of An Phu, An Sinh ward (Kinh Mon, Hai Duong).
The memorial ceremony will take place with many rituals: procession, speech and proclamation of the life and career of An Sinh Vuong Tran Lieu, drum beating, gong and sacrificial speech, incense offering. The festival will include Cheo singing, folk songs at Cao An Phu temple relic and an open table tennis tournament.
According to historical records, in 1237, the Tran Dynasty court cut off the land of An Phu communes (now in Kinh Mon), An Duong, An Sinh, An Hung, An Bang, now in Dong Trieu, Uong Bi (Quang Ninh) and granted it to Hoai Vuong Tran Lieu as fiefs and conferred the title of An Sinh Vuong on him. He built Hai Dong into a prosperous land, where mandarin examinations flourished, and was strong in both economy and national defense. He was the father of the Duke, Commander-in-Chief Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan, a loyal son, both literary and martial, famous in history books in three resistance wars against the Yuan-Mongol invaders.
King An Sinh Tran Lieu died on April 1 (lunar calendar) in the first year of Nguyen Phong, 1251. Since then, his death anniversary has become a traditional festival in the locality, attracting many people and tourists from all over to attend.
