As the media reported that Donald Trump had won the race to return to the White House, Republican leaders and allies across continents congratulated him.
According to Politico on November 6, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sent her congratulations: “I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump. The EU and the United States are not only allies but also bound by a true people-to-people partnership, connecting 800 million people. So let us work together to build a strong transatlantic agenda that benefits our people.”
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer wrote on social network X: “Congratulations to President-elect @realDonaldTrump on his historic election victory. I look forward to working with him in the years ahead. As our closest allies, we will stand together to defend our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a longtime Trump ally, tweeted: “The greatest comeback in American political history! Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on a huge victory. A much-needed victory for the world!”
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron said: “I congratulate President Donald Trump. Ready to work together as we have done for four years. With his trust and mine. With respect and ambition. For greater peace and prosperity.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also sent a message: “On behalf of myself and the Italian Government, I would like to send my most sincere congratulations to US President-elect Donald Trump. The United States and Italy are two ‘sister’ countries bound by an unshakable alliance, common values and historic friendship. It is a strategic relationship that I am sure we will strengthen even more strongly.”
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer wrote on social media: “I congratulate @realDonaldTrump on his election success. The United States is an important strategic partner for Austria. We look forward to expanding and strengthening our transatlantic relationship to overcome global challenges together.”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said in his message: “Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on his victory. Together we will face the serious challenges ahead. Serbia is committed to working with the United States for stability, development and peace.”
Polish President Andrzej Duda also sent a congratulatory message with a series of clapping emojis. “Congratulations, President @realDonaldTrump! You did it!”
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said: “Congratulations to Donald Trump on his victory in the presidential election. Our common goal is to ensure that relations between our countries remain at the highest level, despite the change of administration, and that we continue to develop them for the benefit of our citizens.”
For his part, in a statement on social media, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recalled his “wonderful” meeting with Mr. Trump in September and praised Mr. Trump’s commitment to a “peace through strength” approach to global affairs. “We look forward to continuing to receive strong bipartisan support in the United States,” he added.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed Mr Trump's victory as "the greatest comeback in history". "It is a new beginning for America and a strong commitment to the great alliance between Israel and the United States," Mr Netanyahu posted on X.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Mr Trump on his "historic election victory". "As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to continuing my partnership with you," Mr Modi said.
Previously, US media reported that Mr. Trump had won more than 270 electoral votes, enough to become the next president of the United States.
On Election Day, November 5, Mr. Trump had an excellent performance with a series of resounding victories in all 7 decisive battleground states including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. He won all 93 electoral votes in these states.
Early afternoon of November 6, Vietnam time, Mr. Trump gave his first speech at the Palm Beach Convention Center (Florida). Speaking to his supporters, Mr. Trump said that he and his supporters had made history in the race to the White House.
Mr Trump also pledged to "heal" the country, saying America had given him and his supporters an important and unprecedented mandate.
“The popular vote victory was incredible,” he said. “There was a tremendous sense of love in this great room… I want to thank the millions of Americans who came out in record numbers and delivered this victory. We will give it back and we will do our best. We will change things. This will be remembered as the day the American people took back control of our country.”
