Julian Alvarez debuts, Atletico draws with Villarreal

Atletico and hosts Villarreal shared the points 2-2 in the final match of the opening round of La Liga 2024-25.

These are two of the teams that have renewed most strongly this summer, especially in the case of Atletico.

The highlight is Julian Alvarez, Diego Simeone's expensive contract. Atletico had to pay the amount according to the formula 75 + 20 million euros to Man City.

However, in the away match at De la Ceremica, Julian Alvarez only appeared on the bench.

Coach Simeone is not in a hurry to use Alvarez. The reason is that "Spiderman" has just joined the team late, after attending Copa America 2024 and the Paris Olympics 2024.

The duel started as soon as the ball was rolled without any respite, with the two teams battling in a tense atmosphere unsuited for this early in the season.

Danjuma gave Villarreal the opening goal in the 18th minute, but just two minutes later, Marcos Llorente equalized.

In the 37th minute, Villarreal took the lead for the second time with an own goal by Koke. In the 5th minute of injury time of the first half, Sorloth scored against his former team to tie the score 2-2.

The second half was a tighter affair. Julian Alvarez came on for Griezmann in the 78th minute, but there was little time for him to make an impact.
