An Israeli airstrike on a rocket depot near Aleppo airport in northern Syria has killed 42 people, including 36 Syrian soldiers.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), on March 29, Israel conducted airstrikes on Aleppo province, northern Syria, killing 42 people, including 36 Syrian soldiers.
This is the most deadly violence against Syrian military forces since the Hamas-Israel conflict broke out.
SOHR said the Israeli air strike targeted a rocket depot near Aleppo airport.
The rockets belonged to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. This was the second Israeli attack on targets in Syria in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Syrian state news agency (SANA) quoted a military source as saying that the attack, which took place early this morning, caused casualties among both civilians and soldiers.
According to SANA, Israel launched the airstrike from the direction of Athriya, Southeast of Aleppo.
In a statement, the Israeli military said it would “not comment on foreign media reports.”
Hours earlier, Israel also carried out another airstrike on the Sayyida Zeinab area, south of the capital Damascus.
According to SOHR, the Sayyida Zeinab area is currently a stronghold of many armed groups, including Hezbollah forces.
Syrian media reported that the airstrike killed two civilians.
Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on targets in Syria since the conflict in Syria broke out in 2011, mainly targeting Hezbollah positions, as well as Syrian army positions.
Cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, a Hamas-backed force, has increased since the Hamas-Israel conflict erupted in October 2023, raising fears of widespread violence.
In six months, fighting has claimed the lives of 346 people in Lebanon and displaced tens of thousands in Lebanon and Israel.
