Iran's state media reported that on January 28, the country successfully launched three satellites at the same time for the first time, using the Simorgh (Phoenix) two-stage rocket developed by the Ministry of Defense.
Specifically, a 32 kg satellite and two small satellites, each weighing less than 10 kg, were launched into an orbit at least 450 km above the ground. The largest satellite, Mahda, developed by the Iranian Space Agency, was launched to test the accuracy of the Simorgh rocket in launching multiple devices at the same time. Meanwhile, the two smaller satellites were tasked with testing narrow-band connectivity and positioning technology.
Last month, Iran launched the Soraya satellite into orbit using a rocket developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Amid Western concerns that Iran’s launch vehicle technology could be used to develop long-range ballistic missile systems, Tehran on January 27 reiterated its legitimate right to develop space technology for peaceful purposes.
