The upgraded version of Hyundai's A-size hatchback is expected to launch in June, still assembled domestically at the factory in Ninh Binh.
A representative of Hyundai Thanh Cong said that the A-size hatchback, Hyundai i10, is almost out of stock at dealers. The company has proactively stopped supplying to prepare for the new upgrade version expected to be launched next June. This is the reason why i10 sales in April dropped by more than half compared to the previous month and created conditions for Toyota Wigo to have a rare time to become the best-selling model in the segment.
The upgrades on the new Hyundai i10 are currently unknown. In the Indian market, the upgraded i10 was launched in early 2023. The car's exterior design has changes in the grille, front bumper in the same color as the body. 15-inch alloy wheels, roof rack, and shark fin antenna with new LED taillight design.
The interior retains the same arrangement of details but adds equipment such as wireless charging and air conditioning from manual to automatic.
In Vietnam, Hyundai i10 is equipped with a 1.2-liter Kappa engine with a capacity of 83 horsepower and a maximum torque of 114 Nm. Comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission. Most likely, the new version will still retain this engine block.
Unlike the Indian market which only offers the hatchback version, Hyundai Thanh Cong also sells the sedan version of the i10 in Vietnam. The selling price of the Hyundai i10 hatchback is 360-435 million VND, the sedan version is 380-455 million VND.
In addition to the i10, the upgraded Kia Morning may be introduced by Truong Hai in the second half of 2024. Sales of this model are also decreasing sharply compared to 2023. In the past 4 months, Morning has never sold more than 100 cars/month.
Toyota Wigo is the only remaining Japanese car model in the cheapest gasoline car segment on the market. The new generation of Wigo was launched in June 2023 in Vietnam. The Japanese car sold quite well in the first months of 2024 thanks to taking advantage of the product life cycle transition period of the two Korean competitors.
The A-segment hatchback segment has lost its appeal in the past 3 years because there are not as many options as before. The trend of small multi-purpose vehicles flooding the market has reduced the demand for models with modest usable space such as the i10 and Morning.
