On October 2, Kim Thanh District Medical Center became the first medical unit in Hai Duong province to administer BCG vaccine (to prevent tuberculosis) to children within 24 hours after birth.
Previously, Kim Thanh District Medical Center was trained by the Provincial Center for Disease Control on injection techniques, post-vaccination reactions and provided 100 doses of BCG vaccine.
Medical centers of districts, cities, and towns (except Hai Duong City Medical Center) and Hai Duong Obstetrics Hospital will administer BCG vaccination to newborns in the near future.
Hai Duong is one of seven provinces where the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has deployed tuberculosis vaccination in hospitals. After the hepatitis B vaccine, this is the second vaccine in the expanded immunization program to be given to children within 24 hours after birth in medical facilities with delivery rooms.
