Five days after taking on the role of coach of the Vietnam U16 and Vietnam U19 teams at the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), coach Hoang Anh Tuan resigned for family reasons.
On May 4, VFF announced that coach Hoang Anh Tuan will take on the coaching role at the U16 and U19 levels of Vietnam to prepare for tournaments in Southeast Asia and the Asian regional qualifiers.
Previously, Mr. Tuan was appointed by VFF as head coach of the Vietnam U23 team to participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. At the 2024 AFC U23 Championship, Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan completed his mission by leading Vietnam U23 to pass the group stage.
On May 9, VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi confirmed that coach Hoang Anh Tuan had resigned from VFF for family reasons. VFF will search for and replace the coach positions for the U16 and U19 teams in the near future.
At the end of the tournament, coach Hoang Anh Tuan said goodbye to the Vietnam U23 team. VFF then announced coach Kim Sang Sik to lead both the national team and Vietnam U23 team on May 6.
A few days earlier, Coach Hoang Anh Tuan had "shot out" with the message "Good bye" on his personal page. That was the time when VFF announced and officially introduced the new head coach Kim Sang Sik.
Like before, VFF often appoints the head coach of the Vietnam national team to also hold the role of the Vietnam U23 team. This practice has been followed in the two most recent coaching terms by Mr. Park Hang Seo and Coach Troussier.
It is not clear whether VFF and coach Hoang Anh Tuan have any problems or if Mr. Tuan simply left due to family matters. However, the fact that the coach left VFF and is not in charge of the two national youth teams is a regret for many Vietnamese fans.
Currently, coach Hoang Anh Tuan is one of the domestic coaches with the best professional qualifications in the country.
The Vietnam U16 team is focused on participating in the 2024 Southeast Asian U16 tournament taking place from June 21 to July 4 in Indonesia. The main goal is the 2025 Asian U17 qualifiers taking place from October 19 to 27.
The Vietnam U19 team is expected to gather in June to prepare for the 2024 Southeast Asian U19 Championship, taking place from July 17 to 31 in Indonesia, and the 2025 Asian U20 qualifiers, taking place from September 21 to 29.
