On the afternoon of April 1, coach Hoang Anh Tuan officially announced the list of 28 U23 Vietnam players to prepare for the 2024 U23 Asian Cup Finals.
The list of U23 Vietnam players preparing for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship is mostly made up of players who have accompanied coach Hoang Anh Tuan from the U17 to U20 levels.
The squad also won the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship with Mr. Tuan and attended the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
In addition, U23 Vietnam also has many national team players participating in the 2023 Asian Cup and 2026 World Cup qualifiers such as goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, defender Phan Tuan Tai, midfielder Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Thai Son, and striker Nguyen Dinh Bac.
The new face in the U23 Vietnam squad is defender Nguyen Thanh Khai (SHB Da Nang Club). This is one of the five players that the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has created conditions to add and replace in the preliminary registration list sent to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Among the additional players, central defender Tran Nam Hai has just begun the recovery process from an Achilles tendon injury, so he is not in the best physical condition to be present in this training session.
The 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals will take place from April 15 to May 3 in Qatar.
The tournament has 3.5 places to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics. The fourth-placed team in the tournament will compete in the play-off round with Guinea (representing from Africa).
The match schedule of U23 Vietnam in group D is to meet: U23 Kuwait (April 17), U23 Malaysia (April 20), U23 Uzbekistan (April 23).
According to plan, U23 Vietnam will gather to practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, Hanoi from April 5.
On April 8, coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team will go to Qatar for training and a friendly match with U23 Jordan on April 10 before officially competing in the continental arena.
