Honda Civic hybrid: C-size sedan reaches 1 billion VND

At the Vietnam Motor Show (VMS) 2024, Honda launched the Civic hybrid imported from Thailand with a selling price of 999 million VND. The company calls this version e:HEV RS, the same name as the hybrid version of the CR-V line.

The Honda Civic hybrid retains the same design as the gasoline versions, except for a slightly modified front bumper and a mesh grille. In addition, the car has new 18-inch 7-spoke wheels. Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

In the cockpit, the Civic hybrid inherits the entire design of the previously sold RS model. The hybrid version's seats are upholstered in suede with contrasting red stitching, emphasizing the sporty character that this version aims for.

The remaining details in the Civic hybrid interior are the same as the pure gasoline RS version. Standard equipment on the car includes a 10.2-inch speedometer, a 9-inch entertainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The most notable highlight of the Honda Civic hybrid is the engine. Honda equips this model with a 2.0 gasoline engine combined with a motor, with a total capacity of 200 horsepower. If operating independently, the car's gasoline engine produces 139 horsepower, 182 Nm of torque and the motor is 181 horsepower, 315 Nm. This engine is accompanied by an e-CVT gearbox.

Basically, this engine of the Civic is similar to that of the CR-V hybrid. Especially the e-CVT gearbox, this is not the type of CVT that uses pulleys and belts like a regular CVT, but simply a clutch. The gasoline engine will connect to the wheels through a clutch with two high and low clutches. When you need to go uphill or accelerate quickly, the gearbox will be in low gear to increase traction, and when running smoothly on the highway, it will be in high gear for smoothness.

With the gasoline version, the engine on the Honda Civic is a 1.5 turbocharged type with a capacity of 176 horsepower and a maximum torque of 240 Nm. Conventional CVT gearbox.

The difference between the hybrid and gasoline versions is also in engine performance and fuel consumption. The gasoline version has an average consumption of 8.03/4.8/5.98 liters per 100 km in urban/highway/combined roads. The hybrid version is lower, at 4.54/4.57/4.56 liters, respectively.

When launching the hybrid version, Honda also rearranged its product portfolio. The company removed the standard E version. The pure gasoline engine option now has two versions, G and RS, with prices both increasing by 19 million VND, while the design and equipment remain the same. The company has not yet clarified the reason for the price increase.

With a new selling price of 789-999 million VND, Honda Civic continues to widen the price gap with its competitors, becoming the most expensive model in the C-segment sedan segment. The model closest in price to Civic is Toyota Altis (725-870 million VND), also imported from Thailand. Even Honda's C-segment sedan is priced the same or more expensive than D-segment sedans such as Mazda6 (769-899 million VND), Kia K5 (859-999 million VND).

In the C-segment sedan segment, Civic is the second model with a hybrid engine configuration after Toyota Altis. The driving quality and sporty personality of the Honda model are much more outstanding than its competitors, not to mention the pure sports variant, the Civic Type R, priced at VND 2.399 billion.
