In the bustling atmosphere of the Con Son - Kiep Bac Spring Festival, the rice cake pounding competition attracted the attention of thousands of locals and tourists.
The rice cake pounding competition took place enthusiastically with the cheers of thousands of locals and tourists.On the afternoon of February 11, the rice cake pounding competition began with the competition of boiling water to make sticky rice. The teams had to prepare all the necessary tools including: 1 stove, 1 pot of sticky rice and a set of tools to pound the rice cake. An interesting point is that the teams were not allowed to light a fire to boil water before the competition and absolutely did not use chemicals such as gasoline, kerosene or alcohol to make the fire. This helped to maintain the traditional spirit and safety of the festival.Immediately after the sticky rice is cooked, the teams quickly bring the sticky rice to the pounding area in front of Con Son Pagoda.This year’s Banh Giay pounding competition has 6 teams participating. Each team consists of 6 artisans who are locals with deep knowledge of the art of making Banh Giay, wearing colorful festival costumes imbued with cultural identity. The time for each team to complete 5 rice cakes is 50 minutes, including all stages: steaming sticky rice, pounding cakes and decorating.Due to time constraints, team members were all enthusiastically pounding the cakes amid cheers from locals and tourists.After pounding, the teams used rope to cut the cakes into beautiful pieces.The cakes are not only beautiful but also contain messages of wishing luck, fortune and health for everyone.Once completed, each rice cake is labeled with auspicious words such as “Phuc”, “Loc”, “Tho” in bright red.The Banh Giay pounding competition is not only an opportunity to honor the beauty of traditional culture but also to demonstrate the ingenuity, solidarity and pride of the local people. This will certainly be one of the unforgettable highlights in the hearts of visitors when participating in this year's festival.VAN TUAN
