A man was admitted to the emergency room in a state of cardiac arrest and received chest compressions from paramedics while on a wheelchair.
At noon on August 20, doctors at the Department of Emergency - Intensive Care and Anti-Poison, Thanh Son District Medical Center (Phu Tho), received a 34-year-old man (residing in Thanh Son district) in a state of cardiac and respiratory arrest.
Realizing that this was a critical situation, the department mobilized all medical staff to provide emergency support. Doctors used many measures such as chest compressions, balloon compression via tracheal mask, endotracheal intubation, electric shock, vasopressor drugs, mechanical ventilation, etc. After 15 minutes, the male patient's heart rate returned, his vital signs gradually stabilized and he continued to be treated according to the protocol.
By noon today, August 21, the patient was stable and was taken off the ventilator, and is expected to be discharged in the next few days.
According to the doctor of the Department of Emergency - Intensive Care and Anti-Poison, emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation must be performed quickly and with the correct technique. The human brain can withstand a lack of oxygen for about 4 minutes, after which the cells will almost certainly die and not recover.
When discovering a patient in a state of respiratory arrest, people around need to quickly carry out the steps of CPR in the following order: chest compressions, clearing the airway - mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, calling an ambulance, and taking the patient immediately to the nearest medical facility.
