Doctors at Cam Khe District Medical Center (Phu Tho) have just received and treated a patient with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.
The patient (female, 37 years old, residing in Chuong Xa commune, Cam Khe, Phu Tho) was admitted to the hospital in a state of anxiety, palpitations, and a heart rate of up to 207 beats/minute. The patient was diagnosed with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.
Immediately, the patient was prescribed eye pressure, beta-blocker medication, and continuous heart rate monitoring via monitor. After the heart rate returned to a safe frequency and no further episodes of tachycardia occurred, the patient was discharged from the hospital.
BSCKI. Ha Huy Men, Head of the Emergency Department, said: For adults, the normal heart rate fluctuates between 60 - 80 beats/minute, but when there is supraventricular tachycardia, the heart rate can reach 140-250 beats/minute or higher. If left untreated, tachycardias tend to last longer and become more frequent, causing angina, increasing the risk of heart failure and other cardiovascular complications.
People of all ages can suffer from paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, even those without cardiovascular disease. When symptoms such as palpitations, anxiety, restlessness, shortness of breath, sweating, etc. are detected, or more seriously, symptoms of dizziness, even loss of consciousness, fainting, the patient should immediately go to a medical facility for timely examination and treatment by a doctor.
