According to Yonhap, Mr. Kang Ho-pil, Director of Operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea, on November 20 warned North Korea to "immediately stop" preparations for the next military spy satellite launch and threatened to take "necessary measures" if the plan continues.

The warning came a day after South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik predicted that North Korea would launch a spy satellite “sometime this week.”

“If North Korea continues with its plan to launch a military reconnaissance satellite despite our warnings, our military will take necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of its people,” Kang Ho-pil said, declining to provide details of those potential measures.

North Korea conducted two launches to put spy satellites into orbit in May and August.

Under UN Security Council resolutions, North Korea is banned from using ballistic missile technology in any form or for any purpose.
