The US-Japan-South Korea exercise is expected to include a joint formation flight involving nuclear-capable B-52 strategic bombers and US fighter jets.
On October 22, the air forces of South Korea, the United States and Japan will hold a trilateral air exercise on the Korean Peninsula.
The exercise is expected to include a joint formation flight involving B-52 strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons and US fighter jets.
South Korea-US navies conclude anti-submarine exercise
According to Yonhap news agency, October 22 is also the last day of the joint anti-submarine exercise between the South Korean and US navies off the US island of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.
The biennial exercise called Silent Shark, which runs from October 6 to 22, is aimed at enhancing the combat effectiveness of the two countries' anti-submarine forces, the South Korean Navy said.
South Korea deployed a 1,800-ton Son Won Il-class submarine and two P-3C patrol aircraft to participate in the drill, which included joint search operations, tracking and submarine attack drills.
The drills come as North Korea announced earlier this month that it had deployed a new “tactical nuclear attack submarine” capable of carrying out underwater nuclear strikes.
