Hanoi dismantles illegal foreign cigarette trafficking ring

During a search of two warehouses in Nghia Tan Ward, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, the police seized 7,869 packs of foreign-made cigarettes without invoices or documents proving their origin.

On November 2, Hanoi City Police said that Tay Ho District Police had just dismantled a ring illegally trading foreign-made cigarettes with very sophisticated methods and tricks of operation.

Tay Ho District Police also issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute 4 suspects for the crime of Trading in prohibited goods, as prescribed in Article 190 of the 2015 Penal Code.

The arrested subjects include: Nguyen Cong Minh (born in 1988), Duong Van Tuan (born in 1994), Ha Thi Thu Huong (born in 1987), all residing in Vinh Phuc province; Nguyen Quyet Thang (born in 1969), residing in Cau Giay district, Hanoi.

During the investigation, the police initially determined that the subjects often tore up foreign cigarettes in small quantities and had employees deliver them to customers to easily avoid detection by the authorities.

All have no invoices or documents proving origin.

The case is being urgently investigated and clarified by Tay Ho District Police, while consolidating records to handle the subjects according to the provisions of law.
