Fed up with having to take time off to travel, an American couple quit their high-paying jobs to travel around the world with their three daughters.
In April 2019, Tiffany Baker (38 years old) and Mark Baker (40 years old) in Terre Haute, Indiana, USA quit their jobs and let their three daughters drop out of school to start a trip around the world. After saving enough money of 70,000 USD (1.7 billion VND) for this adventure, the couple took their three daughters - Giuletta, 9 years old, Penelope, 7 years old and Delia, 6 years old - out of the house and hit the road.
The couple said they were fed up with having to ask for time off to travel, so they quit their 9-to-5 jobs as finance staff to “live their life on their own terms.” They turned to real estate investing and became their own bosses, working remotely. Their three daughters will be educated by their parents.
Tiffany says the journey began when they were ready to leave their six-figure jobs in search of “a better work-life balance.”
“We are not happy to ask permission to take a day off. When we quit our jobs, it is more important that we reset our lives and live without regrets,” she said.
Mark told the South West News Service: “This trip around the world was one of those things we had set out to do with our kids one day. Tiffany came up with the idea when we were driving back from a holiday in New Orleans, Louisiana. She didn’t want to do it right away, she needed time to sort out her work and finances.”
After leaving their office jobs, the couple started a real estate business to make a living. They now own 35 properties, ranging from family homes to commercial developments. Mark estimates they earn about $20,000 a month in rent, enough to fund their family’s world adventures.
This family of passionate travelers has passed through 50 ports and 21 countries, including Africa and Europe. Countries such as Singapore, Australia, Brazil, France... made a special impression on them.
Their three daughters are also "little astronauts" who are extremely excited about traveling around the world with their parents.
Tiffany is a bit nervous about teaching her child herself; she says: “My three daughters were born in different countries – Italy, the US and Japan. Our 9-year-old daughter has her fifth passport. I am worried about whether I can effectively educate her anywhere in the world.”
Mark also shared his concerns: "Taking our child on a trip while also letting him learn and experience more is a great opportunity, the question is whether we can make the most of it or not. In the worst case, if it doesn't work, we will have to send him back to a regular school."
