EURO 2024: Waiting for the wildcards

Besides the host team Germany, the teams of Spain and Scotland (Group A), France, the Netherlands (Group B), England (Group C), Türkiye, Croatia (Group D), Albania, the Czech Republic (Group E), Belgium, Austria (Group F), Hungary, Serbia (Group G), Denmark, Slovenia (Group H), Switzerland, Romania (Group I), Portugal, Slovakia (Group J) also won tickets to attend the biggest football festival in Europe which will take place from June 14 to July 14 next year.

While the final 3 spots are decided in the play-off round (UEFA Nations League) consisting of 12 teams scheduled to take place from March 21 - 26, 2024.

The UEFA Nations League is not entirely a meaningless friendly tournament, as there is a provision allowing teams to seek the opportunity to participate in the EURO finals through the places from this tournament.

The list of 12 teams that will participate in the EURO 2024 play-off round includes: Poland, Wales, Israel, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Finland, Ukraine, Iceland, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Estonia.

The draw for the EURO 2024 finals will take place on December 2 in Hamburg, Germany. The EURO 2024 finals will feature 24 teams divided into six groups of four teams each, taking place in 12 cities in Germany. The top two teams in each group and the four best third-placed teams will advance to the round of 16.

According to the draw in Nyon (Switzerland) on November 23, the teams will be divided into 3 groups with 6 pairs of matches, each pair will have 3 matches (2 semi-finals and 1 final). The winning team will have a ticket to the EURO 2024 finals.

The semi-finals will take place on 21 March 2024 while the three finals will take place on 26 March 2024.

The three winners of the final will secure the last three tickets to the EURO 2024 finals, and will be in pot 4 with Italy, Serbia, Switzerland. Pot 3 includes the Netherlands, Scotland, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, while pot 2 includes Hungary, Turkey, Romania, Denmark, Albania, Austria. Pot 1 includes hosts Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Belgium and England.

Also according to the draw results, the teams that come first will play at home, with a knockout format, a draw after 90 minutes will go to extra time, if the draw continues, a penalty shootout will be held to determine the winning team.

EURO 2024 marks the return to a centralized competition format in one country. In 2020, the tournament did not have a host country but took place across Europe. The EURO 2024 finals will take place from June 14 to July 14, 2024. Hosts Germany will play the opening match at the Allianz Arena in Munich, while the final will take place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin a month later.
